This tutor-marked assignment variedly draws from chapters 2, 6, 7, 9 and10. It consists of four (4) questions and accounts for 20% of the total grade assigned to the course. This assignment will be graded out of 100 marks.
N.B: Your grade will be subject to grade deductions if you did not comply with the following criteria:
• Proper referencing (Harvard referencing) - Deductions could be up to 5 %.
• In-text referencing- Deductions could be up to 5 %.
• Adherence to specified word count – Deductions could be up to 5 %.
• Use of the E-library/External resources – Deductions could be up to 5 %.
In this TMA, you need to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the importance of the internal business workings. In short, what and how effective leaders should do?, types of leadership styles usually adopted and under what situations, differences between leadership and management, managing people approaches ( communication, motivation, training and development) that should be used in organizations and the effect of such approaches to outcome, change management and what should be done to lead change successfully and teams working.
In your answer, you should show critical, analytical and justification skills of the subject matter, rather than mere description. Your answer should be within the specified range of words and you must follow the Harvard Style of Referencing. You should present a well-structured and organized piece of work that is of your own creation.
Plagiarism will not be tolerated and plagiarized work will receive Zero marks.
Selecting and Analyzing an Organization
1. You are requested to pick a local organization in which you have a strong personal interest in order to conduct your analysis. For example, select an organization in which you might be interested in working after graduation, or an organization that is a very significant player in a sector in which you plan to work or already work. If you choose to analyze a very large organization, pick one department or an office (some sub-unit of the organization) on which to focus your analysis.
2. It is one requirement for the assignment is to interview at least one member of the organization, it may be convenient to select an organization in your area, but it is not essential. Interviews can be conducted by phone. Alternatively, if you want to use publicly available information to begin your analysis, the organization's Web site is often the best starting point. Remember, however, that you are using the Web site as a source of data for the analysis; do not simply copy material off the Web site. Your assignment is an analysis, not a data-dump.
3. The purpose of the assignment is to develop your ability to use the conceptual frameworks, theories, practices, models and tools that have been taught in the course and to apply them to real world organizations.
4. You should analyze your findings with reference to any relevant materials provided in the B628 course.
-In an essay format answer the following questions:-
Question 1 (20 marks -500 words)
Identify and evaluate the organization communication processes. Outline the channels you think are most effective to secure smooth running of information exchange.
Question 2 (30 marks-750 words)
Analyze methods of attracting, recruiting, selecting and developing employees in the selected organization. Critically assess what the organization does differently to attract quality candidates and explain benefits generated from such strategies.
Question 3 (30 marks-750 words)
Critically discuss approaches to motivation applied in the organization to increase employee engagement and commitment, commenting on their impact on employees’ performance. Explain why you think particular techniques would or would not be effective.
Question 4 (20 marks-500 words)
Critically discuss leadership and management styles adopted in the selected organization. Explain why different organizations’ situations require different leadership styles.
